The VAP team got help from summer students to create a release note tutorial, to present news to you when visiting a VAP service. When you move around in the service after a release, cards will show up where updates or news are created.
A tutorial can have one or many cards with content. The latest card can show a link to read more.
When you have clicked Finish or ‘X’ you will not see the tutorial again.
Tutorial limitations
The VAP team will extend the tutorial with more features later. This MVP (Minimal Viable Product) has some limitations.
Only text is supported. We aim to support images later.
The tutorial will show up once. We intend to find a way to let users trigger the tutorial to be shown again in a later release.
How to create your own report tutorial in VAP?
We know you develop new versions of Power BI reports or web apps. Some of you send release notes to clients by email. Now you can create your own report tutorial and connect it to your report(s). Cards will show when interacting with that report from Home. Only viewable for those that already have access to that specific report.
We have created a template JSON file for you. Use it to add content to be presented in cards. One report tutorial JSON file can be connected to one or many reports. You can insert a URL link to read more.
- Configure, template file are available for download.
- Manage File, you upload your updated file. You see a preview of the tutorial when clicking the file. You can do changes and reupload the next version of the file.
- Manage Report, you connect the tutorial to your report.
How to view the release tutorial in VAP more than once?
We intend to find a way to let users trigger the tutorial to be shown again in a later release.

The same steps as above must be followed.
You will see a feature Id and a number. The feature Id is the name that was given when uploading the file in Manage File.
The number is the report id this tutorial is connected to.
