How Your Monthly Cost Works
Your monthly VAP cost is made up of two components:
Subscription Cost
• Based on the number of external users connected to your service.
• You currently have 8 external users, which places you on the Silver Plan (3–100 users).
→ Refer to the 2025 Price Matrix (PDF) for full tier information.
How to calculate:
1. Find the annual price for your plan (e.g., Silver = NOK 60,000/year).
2. Divide by 12 months.
Example:
NOK 60,000/year = NOK 5,000/month
Consumption Cost
• Based on how often users interact with your reports and how much memory they consume.
• Costs are calculated at the end of each month, based on actual usage.
Where to find your consumption cost:
• Current month: Go to the Consumption page.
• Historical usage: View the VAP Cons Overview page.
Note: Consumption is shown as a total for your entire service, not by individual report.
Total Monthly Cost =
Monthly Subscription Fee + Current Month’s Consumption Cost
Understanding VAP Consumption Costs
What will the consumption cost be if I have X users and Y reports?
There is no fixed formula, as usage and report design vary. Here’s what impacts it:
How Consumption is Measured
• Every user interaction (click/view/filter) with a report is logged.
• More interactions = more usage = higher consumption cost.
Example:
If a user views a report 5 times per day, this results in 5 separate logs.
Memory Load Affects Cost
Every report uses memory differently depending on:
• The number of pages
• The number and complexity of visuals
• The volume of data being loaded and processed
Reports with large datasets or many visuals consume more memory and generate higher consumption costs.
Tip to Reduce Consumption
Avoid combining summary and detailed data in a single report.
Best Practice:
Split into two reports:
• One for high-level summaries (KPIs, trends)
• One for detailed data (raw tables, filters, drill-downs)
This way, only users who need details load the heavier report — reducing overall memory usage and cost.
Shared Capacity Model (Power BI Embedded) - Your cost is based on your percentage
VAP services run on Microsoft Power BI Embedded Capacities, owned by DNV in EU and US data regions.
• All services in a region share the total capacity cost.
• Your cost is based on your percentage of total monthly usage.
• Capacities are billed to the VAP team
Important: The VAP team never invoices your customers. We invoice only the service owner and project code.
Note on API Usage and Cost
If your service uses APIs (e.g. for automations, integrations), this adds a separate API subscription cost.
Where to Monitor Your Costs
Go to the Configure section in your VAP service and open the Statistics Report. There you’ll find:
• Current and historical consumption
• Statistics of usage and the number of external users
• Annual price matrix (PDF)
This helps you track usage trends, budget effectively, and understand cost drivers.
